Hunter agrees to accept the reworked deal for Vikings 2021 season

Hunter accept deal for Vikings. The Vikings have raised the contract money to satisfy and bring Hunter on board. While also pushing the long-term decision to be made next spring.

We knew that Danielle Hunter wanted a new contract until tomorrow, but he won’t hold out to get it. Moreover, as per the reports on Monday, Hunter attended the Minnesota Vikings kick-off as a mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.

Hunter, who signed on a 5-year contract in 2018 of $72 million, skipped organization team functions and many voluntary spring workouts even when having a $100,000 bonus amount. In addition, by attending minicamp, the player will avoid a fine of $93,000.

But appearing in the minicamp does not necessarily mean that Hunter will join, keeping in mind his injury history.

Still, Hunter, a 26-year-old, is a beast when playing on the field, generating 14.5 sacks in the year 2019 and 2019. Not to mention, he earned Pro Bowl honours. The edge rusher, unfortunately, missed all the last season because of a severe neck injury. He also underwent surgery to cure his herniated disc present in the neck in October month.

Hunter’s plan to attend the minicamp is may be an effort to show that he is healthy to return and fit to renew the contract of last year.

However, there are many instances where players participate in mandatory minicamp but skip the training camp. Most recently, the case was with the Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Likewise, Hunter showing up this week is not any full proof sign that the contact has been quashed. The new collective negotiated contract, including no fines for holdouts during training activities, can change a lot about how players seek a new contract. This means a ‘hold in’ situation possibly is coming into vogue.

So, Hunter will attend the minicamp this week, and we will all see how the contract works out. Also, it will say whether he addresses the contract with the media in Minneapolis during the three-day session.

The main question which lies here is whether Vikings would be willing to meet the player’s expectations who has just three years left on his deal and has missed an entire campaign because of an injury.

Well, the wait is over as the Vikings have moved up a large amount of money to satisfy Hunter’s desire. The contract significantly covers the compensation for the short term while both parties have time to work out the long-term extension of the contract for 2021.

The Vikings still need to decide by the fifth day of the 2022 league year what Hunter’s future will be. The option is between releasing the defensive end or picking up his $18 million roster bonus.

If the latter happens, the Vikings are prepared with two players with cap hits north of 20 million dollars in 2022, including hunter and quarterback Kirk Cousin of 45 million dollars.

As we discussed earlier, Hunter has sacrificed a lot of his workout bonus because of his injury by not attending the organized team activities. However, he has posted several photos of him working out throughout the offseason. Thus, the Vikings have maintained an attitude of expecting him back healthy and full in force in 2021.
