Immediately before Sri Lanka visits West Indies, Chaminda Vaas was who is a talented Sri Lankan all-rounder has withdrawn himself from the position of the senior bowling coach of his team after being recently appointed to that post. The sudden move was due to a pay conflict with his board where both the parties disagreed on certain monetary grounds. Sri Lankan cricket criticized Vaas’s impulsive step as “irresponsible” and expressed their annoyance openly.
Vaas was entrusted with the responsibility of the bowling coach of the team after Davis Sarkar who was the former coach resigned due to personal reasons. The team displayed poor performance against England and South Africa. Vaas was supposed to be the mentor and guide of the team during their tour of West Indies until Sri Lankan cricket announced on Monday that it may not be such a case as he pulled out himself from traveling with the team.
The Sri Lankan cricket expressed their displeasure by adding that given the economic climate that is prevailing all across the world, it is quite saddening that Vaas took this immature and reckless step before some hours to the event depending on personal financial grounds.
Mr.Vaas has a good reputation in the field of cricket. The Sri Lankan cricket has high admiration and respect who have proved to be outstanding for hid country. He has been recognized as honored for his clerical assistance all over these years. Thus the Sri Lankan cricket is disappointed to understand that Mr.Vaas has taken the advantage of his position, the administration, and the other faculties, and especially the game, and measure everything based on payment. He went along with the resignation because of not raising his demanded salary although he is a contracted employee of Sri Lankan cricket which provides him enough as per his experience, expertise, and qualification. Nevertheless, along with all the members of the team who would have been traveling, Mr.Vaas was supposed to receive the obvious USD. The resignation handed over by Mr.Vaas has not been taken positively by the cricket board. No other fast pace bowler is considered to be as powerful as Chaminda Vaas who has 355 test wickets and 400 ODI wickets in 439 matches for Sri Lanka as well as performed with the senior national team as the bowling coach in 2013, 2015, and 2017.
Vaas’s resignation will be effective from 26thMarch 2021 and also instructed that he will not be available as a member of support staff in the West Indies tour. The team also received a blow when Lahiru Kumara who is the best fast bowler of the team, came out as Covid positive on Monday. The team has not yet received permission from the country’s sports ministry. Kusal Mendis, kusal Janith Perera, Avishka Fernando, and Banuka Rajapaksa having failed in their fitness test, will be replaced by Ashen Bandara, Pathumnishanka, Ramesh Mendis, and Dilshan Madhushanka in the Sri Lankan T20 series.
Antigua will be witnessing the first three international T20s on 3rd March. He had served as an ODI captain too once upon a time. Vaas in 2017 replaced Champakara Manayaka as Sri Lanka’s bowling coach to guide the team during India tour of Sri Lanka.
