Mark woods heads towards his family declining big money from IPL
Mark Wood chooses devoting time family in England rather than playing for IPL which guarantees “life changing “ money. On 19th February, he took a hard decision of withdrawing himself from the auction of 2021 IPL immediately before the beginning of the event and denying “life changing” money.
Bangladesh’s expert wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim joined the team as Wood pulled outleaving behind 16 England players in the 291 man list for the auction.
Wood explained about his choice to withdraw from the IPL auction of 2021 that he did not think it is justified for him to back out of the team at the last minute. But he was confused about taking the huge step as he thought that it would have helped him to build him up as a cricketer and also help him with his income. Eventually he is satisfied with the decision he took although it would had offered him life changing money. He is more comfortable to spend time with his family.
On Tuesday, February 16th, Jonny Bairstow and Wood joined the group of England test in Chennai before the day and night rubber pink ball test which will be played against India on February 24, Ahmedabad. Therefore, Woods is expected to be in India for the white ball session of the tour as well as for the last two tests.
According to Woods, because of the Covid situation, he is not getting time to spend with the family where all he wants to do is switch off the phone, spend time in the home and get prepared for the upcoming big match for England. He is going to spend six weeks in India and more eight weeks which makes it a total of 14 weeks. He wants to take a break from his busy schedule.
He wants to give impotence to the heap of cricket that is supposed to happen at the end of the year. He is taking good care of himself mentally and physically so that he is all set for the world cup and the big series against India at England. Besides spending a quality time to make up for the long duration he had been away from home in this year.
The mini auction bought overseas fast bowlers like Kyle Jamison from New Zealand, Chris Morris from South Africa and Jhya Richardson from Australia with big money. Chennai super kings’ franchise bought Woods for 1.5 crores after he played a single game for the Chennai super kings in the 2018 IPL.
He said that there are many players who went in for the huge amount of money which is why it was difficult for Woods to come to a conclusion. Besides the big money, it is also a great opportunity to polish their skills and will be able to get qualified for the T20. Woods said that he needs to get another match to play for in the IPL as he played a single game for Chennai in 2018 which was the very last time.
